Day Of Mourning - Panama
The above link explains (complete with a streaming 90-minute documentary) this relatively new date added last year onto the world calendar of events; it commemorates the "slaughter" of Panamanians during the 1989 U.S. inavsion of Panama in which many citizens were killed by thousands of U.S. troops that landed to arrest dictator Manuel Noriega on drug charges. The government estimates that 472 to 500 Panamanians were killed, but human rights organizations say more than 1,000 died. About 25,000 U.S. troops participated in the invasion, 23 of whom were killed.
